What is Language Collecting?
Language Collecting is the practice of gathering words and phrases from real life (like shows, conversations, or music) so learning feels natural, exciting, and deeply personal — helping you grow fluent through curiosity, not force.

How I discovered the KEY to learn languages
I (should’ve) had an easy time learning Spanish…
BOTH my parents speak Spanish…
My mom tried to teach me since I was little…
I took 4 years of classes in school…
And I even spent a few years learning Spanish on my own…
But I was never able to ‘speak‘ the language.
I Failed.
So I gave up…and learned Japanese Instead!
Yes, I gave up Spanish to learn a much MUCH harder language.
They funny thing is…
I had an easier time learning Japanese than I ever had learning Spanish.
Weird, right?
But I was stuck with Spanish.
I didn’t know what I was doing wrong.
By all means, I did everything right…
- I picked up the textbooks people recommended.
- I tried all the apps people swear by.
- I even took classes and hired a tutor.
Nothing worked.
So I thought, “How about I try learning a language I know NOTHING about?”
That’s how I started learning Japanese.
(I wasn’t even into anime at the time – so truly starting from zero – well…other than knowing the words Sushi and Domo arigato Mr Roboto)
Japanese showed me the JOY of Learning Languages
When I started learning Japanese – Everything was different.
I still remember the joy I had learning a few new new things in Japanese.
When I found a new word – I got excited…
While watching shows – I pulled out phrases…
When I learned anything new – I simply had a BIG SMILE on my face.
I was a collector.
(even if I didn’t know it at the time)
I spent and embarrassing amount of time collecting from Anime.
But this was the best stuff.
Because I’d get a deeper connection.
There’s action…
There’s emotion…
It makes you feel something.
So every time I go back and listen to these clips again, I remember the exact feeling and story behind that phrase.
This gives you something NO textbook and NO course – could ever give you.
The App I Made for Language Collectors
When I was learning Japanese, there were a lot of small tedious things I did…
- I cut out audio clips…
- Copied and pasted a ton of text…
- Managed +16,000 flashcards…
- Organized all of these terms and phrases into decks…
- Used editing software to record and compare myself with the original audio…
- Manually found different content I could learn from…
- And more…
I wanted to pack up everything I did into 1 app: Mezasu.com
